I find PDAs very disturbing and like Rads, I stare and embarrass those who indulge in PDAs. Also, I would fight and argue with my husband to watch a late-night horror movie over a romantic one and then wake him up in the middle of the night to accompany me to the loo. It is very difficult for a person such as me to comprehend why certain people give up their lives after being ditched by their loves. But, at the same time, I find it infinitely wonderful to see couples who have had successful romances and marriages and have stuck together from the prime to the twilights of their lives. The people (couples) who have grown old together and have remained faithful to each other throughout their lives are incredible people. So, I have sorted out a few of the incredible romantic couples in recent times. (Please note that I have taken some excerpts from wikipedia and web for factual presentation.)
Christopher D’Olier Reeve (September 25, 1952 – October 10, 2004) was an American actor, film director, producer, screenwriter and author. He achieved stardom for his acting achievements, including his notable motion picture portrayal of the fictional superhero Superman.
On May 27, 1995, Reeve became a quadriplegic after being thrown from a horse in an equestrian competition in Virginia. He required a wheelchair and breathing apparatus for the rest of his life.
Reeve married Dana Morosini in April 1992, and they had a son. After becoming quadriplegic, Christopher found immense support and love from his Dana, who stuck to him and stool like a pillar of strength for Christopher and they founded together Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, which is dedicated to curing spinal cord injuries.
After Christopher’s accident, Dana declared to Christopher: “I still love you no matter what. You are still you.” Dana loved to ride horses. In 2005, she told Larry King: “I rode my whole life, and after Chris had his accident, I stopped riding, primarily because he loved it so much, and I think it really would have been painful for him if I was going off riding and he wasn’t able to. And it didn’t mean that much to me to drop.
John Lennon was an English musician and singer-songwriter who rose to worldwide fame as one of the founding members of The Beatles. He was assassinated in 1980. John Lennon married Yoko Ono and campaigned for peace in Vietnam. Ono was regarded by Lennon as an “almost magical being” who could solve all his problems for him, but this was a “grand illusion”, and she openly cheated on him. Both he and Yoko were burnt out from years of hard drugs, overwork, emotional breakdowns, quack cures, and bizarre diets, to say nothing of the effects of living constantly in the glare of the mass media. After their separation, “no longer collaborating as a team, they remained in constant communication. … No longer able to live together, they found that they couldn’t live apart either.” (source: wikipedia). Though John Lennon and Yoko Ono were one of a kind, they stuck to each other.
Sonia (from Orbassano, Italy) met Rajiv Gandhi, who was enrolled in Trinity College at the University of Cambridge in 1965 at a Greek restaurant while working there. Sonia and Rajiv Gandhi married in 1968. It was very courageous decision on part of Rajiv Gandhi, the scion of most powerful political family, to marry a person who did not even belong to his nation and make her accepted by not only his family but also the entire nation. Sonia Gandhi played an important role in keeping Rajiv Gandhi away from politics for long and it was not until Indira Gandhi’s death that she allowed her husband to join active politics. They remained married to each other until the demise of Rajiv Gandhi.
Mukesh Ambani is a powerful Indian business magnate and the chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries Limited. Nita Ambani is his wife, who is also a dancer, educationist, social worker, and an art lover. They have been married for more than 25 years now.
Nita says that Mukesh proposed to her in the car at peak traffic time and didn’t start the car until she said yes to his proposal…..how cute. Monroe, who allegedly enjoyed affairs with both John Kennedy, the US president, and his attorney general brother, Robert, committed suicide with an overdose of sleeping pills in 1962.
